Major Car Service – What Is Included
A major car service is a more comprehensive inspection and maintenance service than a minor service. Depending on the vehicle manufacturer and service schedule, it commonly includes:
- Engine oil and oil filter replacement
- Air filter inspection or replacement
- Fuel filter inspection or replacement where required
- Cabin/pollen filter inspection or replacement
- Brake inspection, including pads, discs, fluid and lines
- Tyre condition, pressure and tread-depth check
- Suspension and steering component inspection
- Battery and charging-system test
- Cooling system inspection
- Coolant level and condition check
- Check for fluid leaks
- Check engine and transmission mounts

- Spark plug replacement where due
- Transmission and gearbox fluid inspection
- Differential and transfer-case fluid inspection where applicable

Important: A major service should follow the vehicle manufacturer’s service schedule. Some items, such as timing belts, transmission fluid, spark plugs and coolant, are only replaced at specific intervals rather than at every major service.
